What This Skill Does

A CLI and API wrapper for managing Node-RED instances. Covers flow deployment, node module management, backups, runtime context, and diagnostics. Configured via environment variables pointing to a Node-RED Admin API endpoint.

Scripted CLI access lets you integrate Node-RED changes into automated pipelines without manually navigating the web UI each time.

When to use it

  • Deploying updated automation flows to a remote Node-RED instance
  • Installing third-party node modules without opening the Node-RED UI
  • Backing up all flows before a server migration or upgrade
  • Restoring a previous flow state after a failed deployment
  • Reading or writing global context values from a script or CI pipeline

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: Deploy the watchdog flow from assets/flows/watchdog.json

AGENT
  1. 1Run `scripts/nr list-flows` to check existing flows
  2. 2Run `scripts/nr deploy --file assets/flows/watchdog.json` to push the flow
  3. 3Run `scripts/nr get-flow-state` to confirm the flow is running
  4. 4Run `scripts/nr get-diagnostics` if any errors appear
OUTPUT

Flow deployed and confirmed active via runtime state check
