What This Skill Does
Provides access to documentation for public GitHub repositories via the DeepWiki MCP server. Supports three operations: asking AI-powered questions about a repo, listing its wiki structure, and reading specific wiki pages. Works with any public repository and requires no authentication.
Answers are grounded in a repo's actual documentation rather than general training data, reducing the chance of outdated or hallucinated responses.
When to use it
- Understanding a library's architecture before submitting a pull request
- Checking if a project documents a specific feature without cloning the repo
- Getting a direct answer about API usage sourced from the project's own docs
- Exploring the wiki structure of an unfamiliar open-source codebase
- Researching how a popular framework handles a particular pattern
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: How does React handle concurrent rendering?
- 1Runs deepwiki.js with the 'ask' command targeting facebook/react
- 2Sends the question to the DeepWiki MCP server at mcp.deepwiki.com
- 3Server retrieves relevant sections from the React repository's wiki
- 4Returns an AI-generated answer grounded in those documentation pages
