Fix vehicles command showing zero results (camelCase routeId field)
What This Skill Does
Fetches real-time Austin CapMetro transit data including vehicle positions, next arrivals, service alerts, and route details for buses and rail. No API key required. Data comes from the Texas Open Data Portal and updates every 15 seconds.
All feeds are open-access government data with no authentication required, so there is no setup before getting real-time results.
When to use it
- Checking next 801 MetroRapid arrival before leaving the office
- Finding active service alerts on the MetroRail Red Line before commuting
- Tracking live bus positions during a stop wait
- Locating the nearest CapMetro stop by GPS coordinates
- Looking up fares and schedules for an unfamiliar Austin route
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: When is the next 801 bus at the Domain?
- 1Search for stops near the Domain using stops --search 'domain'
- 2Identify the correct stop ID from the results
- 3Fetch arrivals for that stop filtered to route 801
- 4Check for active service alerts on route 801
- 5Present next arrival times in 12-hour format alongside any alert info
Next Route 801 MetroRapid arrivals at Domain Transit Center: 2:14 PM (3 min), 2:26 PM (15 min). No active service alerts.
