Version History
**Major update: Adds mandatory safe JSON construction using jq for all API requests.** - All commands for creating or updating data now require using jq (`jq -n --arg/--argjson`) to build JSON, preventing shell injection and quoting errors. - Added a prominent section explaining and enforcing the safe JSON construction rule. - Updated all write and some read examples to demonstrate proper, secure variable handling with jq. - Improved comments and code samples for clarity and best security practices. - No functional API/interface changes; all updates reinforce secure scripting usage.
What This Skill Does
Connects to Shortcut.com (formerly Clubhouse) via the REST API v3 to read and write stories, epics, and workflows. Supports listing, searching, creating, updating, and commenting on work items, plus wiring story dependencies.
Lets you query and update Shortcut directly from a terminal or agent without opening the web app, which reduces context-switching during development.
When to use it
- Look up a specific story by sc-XXXX ID
- List all stories currently assigned to you
- Create a bug report with labels and estimate
- Move a story to a different workflow state
- Set one story as a blocker for another
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: create a feature story titled 'Add dark mode toggle' under the UI epic with a 3-point estimate
- 1Verify SHORTCUT_API_TOKEN is available
- 2Fetch workflows to get the target workflow state ID
- 3Fetch epics to find the UI epic ID
- 4Build request body using jq -n --arg to safely escape user input
- 5POST to /stories and return the new story ID and app_url
