What This Skill Does
Runs a shell script that checks the health of a Raspberry Pi by reading CPU temperature, throttling flags, voltage levels, memory and disk usage, fan RPM, load averages, and overclock settings. Works on Pi 3, 4, and 5 running Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm or later. Returns exit codes 0, 1, or 2 to indicate healthy, warning, or critical states.
Consolidates a dozen separate vcgencmd and sysfs queries into a single script with structured exit codes, making it easy to integrate into cron jobs or monitoring pipelines.
When to use it
- Checking if a Pi is thermally throttling under load
- Diagnosing under-voltage issues from a weak power supply
- Verifying system stability before a long-running job
- Monitoring fan operation on a Pi 5 with active cooling
- Detecting unauthorized overclocking on a shared Pi
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User runs: bash scripts/health.sh
- 1Reads CPU temperature from thermal_zone0
- 2Calls vcgencmd get_throttled to check throttling and under-voltage flags
- 3Reads memory and disk usage via free and df
- 4Checks fan RPM from hwmon sysfs and CPU frequency from cpufreq sysfs
- 5Reads load average from /proc/loadavg and scans dmesg for power warnings
Prints a health summary table with warning/critical annotations and exits with code 0 (healthy), 1 (warnings), or 2 (critical)
