Setup & Installation

openclaw skills install @louzhixian/git-crypt-backup

Or with the ClawHub CLI, for registry-managed skill folders outside a full OpenClaw workspace:

npx clawhub install git-crypt-backup

What This Skill Does

Backs up Clawdbot workspace and config directories to GitHub repositories using git-crypt to encrypt sensitive files. Supports both manual and automated daily backups via a shell script or cron job. Restoration on a new machine requires cloning the repos and unlocking with exported keys.

Combining git version history with transparent file-level encryption means sensitive files are protected at rest on GitHub without changing the normal git workflow.

When to use it

  • Automated daily backup of Clawdbot workspace to GitHub
  • Encrypting agent memory and credentials before pushing to a remote
  • Restoring Clawdbot config on a new machine from a private repo
  • Keeping SOUL.md and .env files private while still using version control
  • Exporting and securely storing git-crypt keys for disaster recovery

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: back up my Clawdbot workspace now

AGENT
  1. 1Runs backup.sh from ~/clawd/skills/git-crypt-backup/scripts/
  2. 2Script stages all changes in ~/clawd with git add -A
  3. 3Commits with a timestamped message
  4. 4Pushes to the configured GitHub remote
  5. 5Repeats the same sequence for ~/.clawdbot config repo
OUTPUT

Both repos pushed to GitHub with sensitive files transparently encrypted via git-crypt
