What This Skill Does
Controls IP cameras over RTSP and ONVIF protocols. Supports snapshots, video recording, PTZ movement, preset positions, and network camera discovery. Works with cameras from TP-Link, Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink, Amcrest, and Axis.
Combines RTSP capture and ONVIF PTZ control in one skill, avoiding the need to juggle separate tools or write custom ONVIF XML by hand.
When to use it
- Capture a snapshot from a front-door camera on demand
- Record a 15-second clip when motion is detected
- Pan a PTZ camera to a saved preset position
- Scan the local network to find and configure new cameras
- Pull the RTSP stream URL for use in another application
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: check the backyard camera and move it to the gate preset
- 1Run camera.sh info to verify the backyard camera is reachable
- 2Run ptz.py preset list to retrieve saved presets
- 3Identify the gate preset number from the list
- 4Run ptz.py preset goto <n> to move the camera to that position
- 5Run camera.sh snapshot to capture a frame confirming the new view
Camera is positioned at the gate preset and a snapshot is saved to disk
