Version History

v2.1.0Feb 24, 2026 - Version note by skill developer:

Add LAN control via wfview rigctld (auto-detect), rigctld connection priority, power on/off via LAN, RIGCTLD_ADDR env var

What This Skill Does

Controls an Icom IC-7610 transceiver over USB or LAN. Reads and sets frequency, mode, and transmit power, and supports CW keying, beacon loops, and remote power on/off. Built-in safety checks enforce amateur band limits, SWR thresholds, and operator confirmation before any RF transmission.

Auto-detects the active connection method (rigctld LAN, flrig XML-RPC, or direct serial) so the same commands work without reconfiguring when switching setups.

When to use it

  • Set frequency and mode before a FT8 session on 20m
  • Check S-meter and SWR readings during a contest
  • Run a timed CW beacon on 10m with configurable repeat interval
  • Remotely power the radio on or off from across the house
  • Cap transmit power to 5W for a QRP operating session

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: Send a 3-repeat CW beacon on 14.055 MHz

AGENT
  1. 1Check SWR via rigctl to confirm antenna is within safe limits
  2. 2Set VFO frequency to 14055000 Hz
  3. 3Confirm frequency falls within the 20m amateur band segment
  4. 4Request operator confirmation before keying the transmitter
  5. 5Send the CW beacon string 3 times with configured interval between repeats
OUTPUT

Beacon transmitted 3 times on 14.055 MHz; SWR and band checks passed, operator confirmed
