What This Skill Does
Fetches NYC subway departure times using the MTA's real-time GTFS feeds and static schedule fallback. Covers all subway lines including 1-7, A-G, J, Z, L, N, Q, R, W, S, and SIR. Station names are fuzzy-matched, so partial lowercase input works.
Combines live MTA GTFS-RT data with static schedule fallback in a single CLI call, so you get accurate times whether asking about now or hours ahead.
When to use it
- Checking when the next C train leaves Clinton-Washington
- Planning a commute home from Bergen St on the 2 or 3
- Finding northbound departures before heading to Manhattan
- Looking up a future train time for a 7pm meeting
- Comparing multiple lines at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: When is the next southbound 2 train from Bergen St?
- 1Run `subwayskill 2 bergen -d S` to fetch departures
- 2Parse output for southbound times with real-time or scheduled labels
- 3Read destination labels to confirm direction (e.g., Coney Island-bound)
- 4Return the next 1-3 departure times to the user
Next southbound 2 trains from Bergen St: 4 min (Coney Island-bound), 12 min, 19 min
