Version History

v1.0.2Feb 23, 2026 - Version note by skill developer:

- Adds detailed usage instructions and workflow for sending messages to RDA MSG Board using HTTP/JSON. - Introduces support for multiple board profiles and management via `boards.yaml`. - Documents secure execution requirements to prevent command injection. - Expands feature list and provides comprehensive configuration and troubleshooting guidance. - Lists available alert sounds ("chirps") and command-line options for enhanced message control. - Adds project overview and direct usage examples for easy onboarding.

What This Skill Does

Sends scrolling text messages to an RDA MSG Board LED matrix display over HTTP JSON. Supports multiple named board profiles with stored credentials, configurable scroll speed, brightness, buzzer alerts, and musical chirp sounds. Works with ESP8266 and ESP32-based boards running the RDA MSG Board firmware.

Physical LED board notifications provide ambient awareness without requiring anyone to check a phone, app, or screen.

When to use it

  • Sending meeting reminders to an office LED display
  • Triggering system failure alerts with buzzer sounds on a lab board
  • Displaying countdown timer messages on a shared workspace screen
  • Broadcasting announcements to multiple named boards in different rooms
  • Sending automated status updates from monitoring scripts

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: Send 'Meeting in 5 minutes' to the office board with a doorbell sound

AGENT
  1. 1Check boards.yaml for the 'office' profile to retrieve board IP and credentials
  2. 2Construct the command with the message text, profile name, and --chirp 'Doorbell' parameter
  3. 3Run send_message.py with argv list to avoid shell injection
  4. 4Confirm HTTP 204 response indicating the board accepted the message
OUTPUT

'Meeting in 5 minutes' scrolls across the office LED matrix with a doorbell chirp
