What This Skill Does

Logs every transaction an agent makes, enforces a total spending limit, and warns when the balance drops below a set threshold. Blocks purchases that would exceed remaining budget before they happen. Data is stored locally in a JSON file.

Unlike reviewing bills after the fact, it enforces hard limits at purchase time so an agent cannot overspend.

When to use it

  • Logging an API charge immediately after each external service call
  • Blocking a domain purchase that would exceed the remaining budget
  • Checking available balance before an agent runs overnight tasks
  • Setting a hard spending cap on a weekend automation project
  • Exporting monthly agent expenses to CSV for review

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: Is it safe to spend $25 on a new hosting plan?

AGENT
  1. 1Runs `budget.py check --amount 25.00`
  2. 2Compares requested amount against remaining budget
  3. 3Checks whether the post-purchase balance would fall below the alert threshold
  4. 4Returns approval or a blocking warning with the current balance
OUTPUT

Safe to proceed — $142.50 remaining, above the $50 alert threshold
