Or with the ClawHub CLI, for registry-managed skill folders outside a full OpenClaw workspace:
What This Skill Does
Generates a human-readable changelog from git commit history. Supports markdown, plain text, and JSON output with date range and tag-based filtering. Automatically uses the last git tag as the start point and excludes merge commits.
Requires no dependencies beyond git and bash, so it runs in any environment without installation or configuration.
When to use it
- Writing release notes before tagging a new version
- Summarizing changes between two dates for a sprint review
- Exporting commit data as JSON for CI pipeline processing
- Reviewing what changed in a repo over the past month
- Grouping commits by type in a conventional-commits project
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Generate a markdown changelog for my repo since January 1, 2026
- 1Runs bash scripts/changelog.sh with --repo pointing to the target repository
- 2Passes --since 2026-01-01 to filter commits from that date forward
- 3Excludes merge commits and extracts conventional commit type prefixes from subjects
- 4Formats output as markdown with commit hashes, authors, and dates
A markdown-formatted changelog listing all non-merge commits since January 1, 2026, with author attribution and commit hashes
