What This Skill Does
Connects Claude to the arXiv API to search papers, retrieve abstracts and metadata, and download PDFs by ID or URL. Optionally tracks a personal reading list when paired with MongoDB. No API key is needed for search and retrieval.
arXiv's web interface requires manual browsing and tab-switching; this lets you query, summarize, and track papers directly in the assistant without context switching.
When to use it
- Looking up recent papers on a specific ML topic before starting a literature review
- Fetching the abstract and PDF link for a paper someone shared by arXiv ID
- Finding authoritative sources to cite in a technical blog post
- Checking what LLM security research came out in the past year
- Maintaining a saved reading list of papers to work through over time
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Find the top 5 papers on LLM jailbreaking from 2025
- 1Queries arXiv API with relevant search terms and a 2025 date filter
- 2Retrieves titles, authors, publication dates, and abstracts for matching papers
- 3Ranks results by relevance
- 4Formats output with PDF links
