What This Skill Does
Devboxes are sandboxed containers that run VSCode Web, noVNC, Chromium CDP, and up to 5 routed app ports. The main agent assigns each container a sequential ID, spawns a devbox subagent, and runs devbox-init to configure routing and expose public URLs. Traefik or Cloudflare Tunnels handle routing to VSCode, noVNC, and app slots.
Combines browser-based VSCode, VNC desktop, Chromium CDP, and automatic public URL routing in one container, removing the need to manually configure reverse proxies or DNS per environment.
When to use it
- Spinning up an isolated browser-based coding environment for a new project
- Previewing a web app on a public URL without configuring local tunnels
- Cloning and developing inside a private GitHub repo in a sandboxed container
- Sharing a live dev environment URL with a teammate for real-time review
- Running multiple services on separate ports under a single container session
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Spin up a devbox for my project
- 1Reads and increments the devbox counter file to assign the next sequential DEVBOX_ID
- 2Spawns a devbox subagent labeled devbox-{id} with the assigned ID in the task
- 3Subagent runs devbox-init to build routing config and write APP_URL_*, VSCODE_URL, and NOVNC_URL env vars
- 4Routes VSCode, noVNC, and app ports via Traefik dynamic config or Cloudflare Tunnel DNS registration
- 5Reports VSCode URL, noVNC URL, and app slot URLs to the user
