What This Skill Does
Turns an Android phone running IP Webcam into a local motion detection system. Pixel comparison via ImageMagick determines whether a frame has changed enough to warrant AI analysis. Raw frames stay on the local network and the AI is only called when the difference crosses a threshold.
Unlike cloud cameras that upload continuously, raw frames never leave your network and no AI tokens are spent unless actual motion is detected.
When to use it
- Watching a front door with an old Android phone
- Getting AI-described alerts when someone enters a room
- Monitoring a driveway or garage overnight
- Detecting motion in a storage room or workshop
- Checking whether a package was delivered or picked up
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: watch my front door and alert me if anything moves
- 1Fetch a snapshot from /shot.jpg on the IP Webcam server
- 2Compare it to the previous frame using ImageMagick compare
- 3Check the pixel difference against the configured threshold
- 4If the threshold is exceeded, send the frame to the AI model for description
- 5Return a natural-language alert describing what changed in the scene
Alert: A person walked past the door from right to left at 11:43 PM
