What This Skill Does
WebMCP is a browser API that lets websites expose JavaScript functions as structured tools via window.navigator.modelContext. Agents discover and call these tools directly instead of scraping the DOM or simulating UI clicks. Tool sets are dynamic and may change as single-page apps update their state.
Calling structured tools registered by the page is more reliable than DOM scraping, which breaks when layouts or class names change.
When to use it
- Adding items to a web app through its exposed tools without touching the UI
- Triggering a checkout or purchase action on a WebMCP-enabled site
- Re-discovering updated tool sets after navigating within a single-page app
- Running confirmation-gated actions like deletions that require explicit user approval
- Automating data entry on sites that expose structured input tools
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Add a stamp named 'Penny Black' from 1840 to my collection
- 1Navigate to the stamp collection web app
- 2Check window.navigator.modelContext to confirm WebMCP support
- 3Discover registered tools and locate the 'add-stamp' tool
- 4Invoke 'add-stamp' with { name: 'Penny Black', year: 1840 }
- 5Read the structured response and relay the confirmation to the user
