Version History

v1.1.0Jan 27, 2026 - Version note by skill developer:

Added automated monitoring tools: geo-monitor.py for testing citation rates, geo-daily-report.py for formatted reports, and example query file for tracking AI search visibility over time

What This Skill Does

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is a content strategy for getting cited in AI-powered search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google AI Overviews. It prioritizes parseable structure, quotable facts, and neutral tone over keyword density. The skill includes a scored audit framework, content templates, schema markup patterns, and automated citation monitoring scripts.

Traditional SEO tools don't score content for AI citation readiness, so the structured 70-point audit fills a gap that keyword-focused workflows leave open.

When to use it

  • Auditing a product page to improve its citation rate in Perplexity
  • Writing a competitor comparison page that appears in ChatGPT responses
  • Adding FAQ schema markup to a documentation or marketing site
  • Setting up daily monitoring to track which AI queries mention your brand
  • Restructuring a landing page to close gaps identified by the GEO scoring checklist

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: How do I get my SaaS product page to show up when people ask ChatGPT or Perplexity about it?

AGENT
  1. 1Runs the 7-category GEO audit checklist, scoring the page from 0 to 70 across entity clarity, quotable facts, FAQ coverage, comparison positioning, structural clarity, authority signals, and freshness
  2. 2Identifies specific gaps such as missing FAQ section, vague statistics, or no comparison table
  3. 3Applies the entity definition template to restructure the page with a clear first-paragraph definition and a 'by the numbers' section
  4. 4Generates FAQ schema markup and comparison table content to capture 'vs competitor' queries
  5. 5Sets up geo-test-queries.json and a daily cron job to track citation rate on Perplexity across brand, product, and competitor query categories
OUTPUT

Revised page content with a GEO score estimate, ready-to-paste schema markup snippets, and a monitoring configuration tracking citation rate across multiple query categories
