What This Skill Does
Patches PPTX files to fix a PowerPoint bug where custom fonts fail to embed during PDF export, even when font embedding is enabled. Applies 1% transparency to fully-opaque text runs, which forces PowerPoint to embed fonts correctly. The change is visually imperceptible.
Server-side converters like LibreOffice don't reproduce PowerPoint's font embedding behavior, so this fix works within PowerPoint's own export pipeline where the problem actually occurs.
When to use it
- Fixing missing custom fonts in exported pitch deck PDFs
- Preserving branded typography in client-deliverable presentations
- Exporting conference slides to PDF with custom typefaces intact
- Correcting font substitution in academic or report presentations
- Preparing print-ready PDFs from branded PowerPoint templates
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: My presentation exports to PDF with the wrong fonts even though font embedding is enabled in PowerPoint
- 1Receive the PPTX file from the user
- 2Run the fix script: python3 scripts/fix_font_transparency.py input.pptx
- 3Script patches fully-opaque text runs with 1% transparency in each slide's XML
- 4Return the patched PPTX file to the user
- 5Instruct the user to open the patched file in PowerPoint desktop and export to PDF
A patched PPTX file that, when exported to PDF from PowerPoint desktop, correctly embeds the custom fonts
