Version History

v1.0.1Feb 5, 2026 - Version note by skill developer:

- Added a detailed "CLI usage" section describing how to use the script with various flags. - Included practical command examples to clarify real-world use of the CLI. - Expanded documentation of available CLI options, including `--files`, `--lines`, `--brief`, and `--workspace`. - Improved onboarding guidance to help users efficiently summarize workspace identity files and configuration.

What This Skill Does

Reads workspace identity files (SOUL.md, USER.md, AGENTS.md, TOOLS.md) and prints a configurable preview of each so newcomers and agents can orient quickly. Supports filtering to extra documents, adjusting line counts, and switching workspace roots via CLI flags.

Instead of opening and skimming every identity file manually, a single command surfaces the relevant excerpts in one pass.

When to use it

  • Onboarding a new contributor to an unfamiliar workspace
  • Quickly reviewing tone and personality rules before a session
  • Comparing two workspace configurations side by side
  • Generating a lightning summary during a sync call
  • Checking tooling constraints without reading full docs

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: give me a quick orientation to this workspace

AGENT
  1. 1Run context_onboarding.py against the default identity files
  2. 2Print the first five lines of SOUL.md, USER.md, AGENTS.md, and TOOLS.md
  3. 3Surface tone preferences and tooling constraints from each file
  4. 4Optionally append context-guidelines.md with --files for onboarding next-steps
OUTPUT

A terminal printout showing opening excerpts from each identity file so the newcomer can orient without reading every document
