What This Skill Does
CLI and TypeScript library for automating Monarch Money personal finance tasks. Supports searching, filtering, and updating transactions, managing categories, and listing accounts via command line or programmatic API.
Automates repetitive budget categorization and transaction lookup tasks that would otherwise require manual clicks in the Monarch Money web app.
When to use it
- Find all transactions at a specific merchant last month
- Re-categorize a misclassified expense
- Pull January spending data into a script
- Add notes to a transaction after the fact
- List all connected accounts and their balances
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: find all Target transactions in January and recategorize them as Household
- 1Run monarch-money tx list --start-date 2026-01-01 --end-date 2026-01-31 --merchant "Target" to get matching transactions
- 2Run monarch-money cat list --show-ids to find the Household category ID
- 3Run monarch-money tx update <id> --category <category_id> for each transaction returned
All Target transactions from January are updated to the Household category
