Version History
- Added a `version` field to the skill metadata. - Introduced a `metadata` section specifying environment variable and binary requirements, as well as homepage and primary environment variable. - No code or feature changes; documentation and metadata upgrade only.
What This Skill Does
Fetches ocean and surf conditions from Stormglass by spot name or coordinates. Returns a structured JSON payload covering wave height, swell, wind, gusts, tides, and water temperature. Supports current snapshots and forecast windows up to 72 hours.
The stable JSON output contract and explicit exit codes make it reliable for automated agent pipelines without additional normalization work.
When to use it
- Check surf conditions before heading to the beach
- Get tide timing for a specific coastal location
- Pull wind and gust data for a kitesurfing session
- Automate daily surf reports via cron pipeline
- Test offline with mock data before going live
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: What are the surf conditions at Highcliffe Beach for the next 48 hours?
- 1Resolve spot name to coordinates using Google Geocoding or OSM Nominatim fallback
- 2Call Stormglass API with resolved coordinates and 48h horizon
- 3Parse response into structured JSON with wave, swell, wind, and tide fields
- 4Return forecast summary including best windows and tide extremes
JSON payload with waveHeightM, swellPeriodS, windGustMps, waterTemperatureC, and tide extremes for the next 48 hours
