What This Skill Does
HabitChat tracks daily habits, streaks, and completion rates through a conversational interface. It stores all data locally in ~/.habitchat/ as JSON files and uses Python scripts for data operations. The agent understands natural language like 'I meditated' or 'skipped the gym today' and responds with context-aware coaching based on your actual streak data.
All data stays local with no account or sync service required, so there is no third-party dependency and no privacy tradeoff compared to app-based habit trackers.
When to use it
- Logging a completed workout by saying 'done' after a morning run
- Checking why you keep missing habits on Saturdays
- Pausing a streak during vacation without losing progress
- Getting a 30-day completion rate breakdown for a meditation habit
- Setting up desktop reminders tied to specific habit times
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: show me my streaks and coach me on my reading habit
- 1Runs habit_tracker.py overview to pull today's status and active streak rankings
- 2Identifies reading habit by name and runs habit_tracker.py stats --habit 'Read 30 minutes' --days 30
- 3Detects a pattern of Saturday misses from the completion calendar
- 4Runs coach.py analyze --days 30 to generate pattern-based suggestions
- 5Presents streak table, calendar view, and a 2-3 sentence coaching note referencing the actual data
Dashboard showing all habit streaks, a calendar grid for reading with Saturday gaps highlighted, and a brief coaching message suggesting a temptation-bundling strategy for weekend reading
