Fix security flags: add package provenance, remove hard-coded paths, add security notes, document credential usage
What This Skill Does
Routes Claude API requests through a Claude Max or Pro subscription instead of per-token billing. The claude-max-api-proxy package exposes your authenticated Claude Code CLI session as an OpenAI-compatible HTTP endpoint on localhost:3456. Any OpenAI-compatible client connects to this local endpoint without needing a separate API key.
Replaces variable per-token API billing ($15-75/M tokens) with a fixed monthly subscription cost, making high-volume agent usage predictable.
When to use it
- Cutting Claude API costs when monthly usage exceeds $20
- Running Claude Opus 4.6 without per-token charges
- Connecting OpenClaw to a flat-rate Claude subscription
- Using LangChain or custom scripts against a Claude Max plan
- Switching from API billing to subscription-based access mid-project
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Set up the proxy so OpenClaw uses my Claude Max subscription
- 1Verify Claude Code CLI is installed and authenticated with claude --print test
- 2Install claude-max-api-proxy globally with npm install -g claude-max-api-proxy
- 3Start the proxy with claude-max-api and confirm health via curl http://localhost:3456/health
- 4Update ~/.openclaw/openclaw.json to set OPENAI_BASE_URL to http://localhost:3456/v1 and add claude-opus-4, claude-sonnet-4, claude-haiku-4 model entries
- 5Restart OpenClaw and verify a test request returns a response through the proxy
OpenClaw routes all Claude requests through the local proxy, billing against the Claude Max subscription instead of per-token API charges
