Setup & Installation

openclaw skills install @gitgoodordietrying/api-dev

Or with the ClawHub CLI, for registry-managed skill folders outside a full OpenClaw workspace:

npx clawhub install api-dev

What This Skill Does

Covers the full lifecycle of HTTP API development from the command line: scaffolding endpoints, writing integration tests, generating OpenAPI specs, mocking external services, and debugging request/response issues. Works with REST and GraphQL APIs using curl, Python, or Node.js.

Covers the entire API development loop without leaving the terminal, replacing GUI tools like Postman for scripting, CI pipelines, and automated test runs.

When to use it

  • Test a third-party API endpoint before writing integration code
  • Run a local mock server while the backend team is still building
  • Generate an OpenAPI spec for an undocumented internal service
  • Debug why a POST request returns a silent 400 error
  • Benchmark endpoint response times across 10 requests

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: scaffold a minimal REST API, add integration tests, and validate an OpenAPI spec

AGENT
  1. 1Scaffold an Express app with CRUD endpoints using the provided server.js template
  2. 2Start the server and verify the health endpoint returns 200 with curl
  3. 3Write a bash test runner that asserts status codes and JSON field values against the running server
  4. 4Generate an openapi.yaml from the endpoint structure
  5. 5Validate the spec with npx @redocly/cli lint openapi.yaml
OUTPUT

A running Express API with passing integration tests and a validated OpenAPI 3.0 spec
