What This Skill Does
Imports bank statement files in CSV or OFX/QFX format, auto-categorizes transactions by merchant, and tracks budgets against monthly or yearly limits. Answers natural language spending queries using a local script. All data stays in a local SQLite database, nothing is sent externally.
Unlike cloud-based finance tools, all transaction data stays on your machine and is never transmitted to external servers.
When to use it
- Importing a Chase CSV export to see last month's category breakdown
- Asking how much was spent on groceries over the past 30 days
- Setting a monthly dining budget and checking if it has been exceeded
- Adding a custom rule to categorize a recurring merchant correctly
- Generating an HTML monthly report to open and review in a browser
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: "Import my statement and show what I spent last month"
- 1Checks file extension to select import_csv.py or import_ofx.py
- 2Runs the import script and parses the JSON output for transaction count and date range
- 3Automatically runs categorize.py on uncategorized transactions without waiting for user input
- 4Runs query.py with a last-month time filter to total spending by category
- 5Presents a conversational summary of imported transactions and category totals
Imported 54 transactions from Feb 1–28. Groceries $412, Dining $218, Subscriptions $47, Transport $89, Other $203. Skipped 3 duplicate transactions.
