Setup & Installation
Or with the ClawHub CLI, for registry-managed skill folders outside a full OpenClaw workspace:
What This Skill Does
entr watches a list of files and re-runs a specified command whenever any of those files change. It reads filenames from stdin and blocks the terminal while monitoring.
entr requires no configuration files or daemons, making it faster to set up than tools like nodemon or watchman for ad-hoc watch tasks.
When to use it
- Rebuild a C project automatically when source files change
- Re-run test suite on every JavaScript file save
- Auto-reload a Node.js server when app files are modified
- Trigger a linter on file changes during development
- Watch config files and restart a service on edits
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: watch all JS files in the repo and re-run tests on save
- 1List tracked files using git ls-files
- 2Pipe output through grep to filter .js files
- 3Pass the file list to entr with npm test as the command
- 4Run the full pipeline in the background using the process tool
- 5Monitor output for test results as files change
entr watches the matched files and executes npm test each time a change is detected
