Setup & Installation
Or with the ClawHub CLI, for registry-managed skill folders outside a full OpenClaw workspace:
What This Skill Does
Installs and runs NVIDIA Parakeet ASR locally, exposing an OpenAI-compatible transcription endpoint at localhost:9001. Supports Ubuntu/Linux and macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon). Optional Whisper fallback available for higher reliability.
Keeps audio data fully local with no API keys or usage costs, while exposing a standard OpenAI-compatible endpoint so existing tooling works without modification.
When to use it
- Transcribing meeting recordings without sending audio to the cloud
- Setting up voice input for a local OpenClaw assistant
- Debugging a broken speech-to-text pipeline on a dev machine
- Running ASR on sensitive audio that can't leave the network
- Replacing a paid transcription API with a self-hosted alternative
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: set up local speech-to-text and verify it works
- 1Runs bootstrap.sh to install or update the Parakeet runtime to ~/parakeet-asr
- 2Runs start.sh to launch the ASR service
- 3Runs healthcheck.sh to confirm the service is up at localhost:9001
- 4Runs smoke-test.sh with a sample audio file to verify transcription output
Service running at http://localhost:9001/v1/audio/transcriptions, smoke test returns transcript text
