v1.0.1Feb 24, 2026 - Version note by skill developer:

- Added _meta.json file to the skill package. - No code or functional changes were made.

What This Skill Does

Provides web search using DuckDuckGo's Instant Answer API with an HTML SERP scrape as fallback. Returns a structured result set: a short summary, up to 5 links with titles and snippets, and optional page summaries. No API key required.

Works out of the box without registering for or paying for a search API key, unlike Brave, Google, or Bing search integrations.

When to use it

  • Looking up recent news on a topic without sharing queries with ad networks
  • Finding top tutorials or docs for a library or framework
  • Getting quick factual answers during a research session
  • Running site-specific searches to locate relevant pages
  • Summarizing top search results for a given question

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: Search the web for recent Python 3.13 release notes and give me the top links

AGENT
  1. 1Invoke scripts/ddg_search.js with the query string
  2. 2Script calls DuckDuckGo Instant Answer JSON API
  3. 3If the instant answer returns limited data, script falls back to lightweight HTML SERP fetch
  4. 4Script parses results and returns structured JSON with summary and up to 5 links
  5. 5Agent presents the summary and link list to the user
OUTPUT

JSON object with query, short abstract summary, and 5 titled links with snippets
