Add GPX/KML input (incl. gx:Track), speed across full duration, basemap readability controls (alpha/contrast/sharpness), and zoom fallback.
What This Skill Does
Generates an animated driving route video (MP4) from a list of stops or a GPX/KML track file. Uses OSRM for road-following geometry, OpenTopoMap for terrain tiles, Matplotlib for frame rendering, and FFmpeg for encoding. Output is a fly-follow camera animation with a drawn route line and stop labels.
Combines road-accurate geometry from OSRM with real terrain tiles and video encoding in a single script, without requiring a Node.js/Remotion setup.
When to use it
- Exporting a road trip recap as a shareable video
- Creating a route flythrough for a travel blog or YouTube video
- Visualizing a hiking or cycling track from a GPX export
- Animating a delivery or logistics route across cities
- Making a presentation asset showing a multi-stop journey
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: create a route video from Xiangyang to Yueyang following highways
- 1Create stops.json with coordinates for each city stop
- 2Set up a Python venv and install numpy, matplotlib, pillow, requests
- 3Run terrain_route_video.py with --stops stops.json, --size 1600x900, --fps 30, --duration 12, and title/subtitle flags
- 4Script fetches OSRM road geometry and downloads OpenTopoMap tiles into .tile-cache/
- 5Matplotlib renders frames into frames/ directory and FFmpeg encodes out.mp4
out.mp4 — a 12-second 1600x900 animated terrain route video with a red route line, cyan head dot, and stop labels
