What This Skill Does
Spend Pulse tracks credit card spending against a monthly budget using Plaid transaction data. It uses last month's actual spend curve to pace alerts, so early-month bills don't trigger false alarms. Run it on a schedule to get alerts only when something worth knowing has happened.
Pacing against last month's actual spend curve instead of a linear ramp eliminates false alerts from recurring early-month charges like rent or subscriptions.
When to use it
- Checking if you're on pace mid-month before a big purchase
- Getting a daily spending summary with a visual chart attached
- Reviewing which merchants drove a spike in weekly spending
- Setting up an automated alert when remaining budget drops below $500
- Comparing this month's cumulative spend curve against last month
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Am I on track with my spending this month?
- 1Run `spend-pulse sync` to pull latest transactions from Plaid
- 2Run `spend-pulse check --chart` to evaluate alert conditions and generate a chart
- 3Parse the YAML output for `should_alert`, `oneline`, `pace`, and `new_items`
- 4If `should_alert` is true, compose a brief message using `oneline` and notable transactions from `new_items`
- 5Attach the chart image from `chart_path` to the message
A short spending update with pace status, remaining budget, recent notable transactions, and a chart image comparing this month to last month
