What This Skill Does
A phased framework for stress-testing a business idea before committing resources. Covers problem definition, demand signal gathering, customer discovery interviews, riskiest assumption testing, and a weighted go/no-go scorecard. Each phase has a kill-check to stop early if the idea doesn't hold up.
Kill-checks at every phase force an early stop before sunk costs accumulate, unlike informal validation that tends to confirm existing bias.
When to use it
- Deciding whether a SaaS tool idea is worth building before writing any code
- Structuring 10-15 customer discovery calls around a new product concept
- Running a landing page pre-order test to check willingness to pay
- Comparing two competing startup ideas side by side to pick one
- Documenting a failed validation to reuse lessons on the next attempt
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Should I build a client deliverable tool for freelance graphic designers?
- 1Define the problem precisely: who the customer is, what the painful moment is, why it hurts, and what they do now as a workaround
- 2Check 3+ demand signals across Google Trends, Reddit threads, G2 reviews, and LinkedIn job postings
- 3Design a 15-minute discovery script and conduct 10-15 interviews with freelance designers
- 4Identify the riskiest assumption (willingness to pay) and run a landing page test driving 200 targeted visitors
- 5Score all six dimensions on the go/no-go scorecard and calculate the weighted result
A scored validation doc with a go/conditional-go/no-go decision and documented kill-check results for each phase
