Version History

v2.2.0Feb 27, 2026 - Version note by skill developer:

新增完整的集合管理功能:collection-create(创建)、collection-rename(重命名)、collection-delete(删除)、collection-add-item(添加项目到集合)、collection-remove-item(移除项目)、collection-list(列出集合项目)。修复了 API 调用问题,所有功能已测试通过。

What This Skill Does

Python scripts wrapping the pyzotero library to interact with Zotero reference libraries. Supports search, full-text search, item retrieval, adding items individually or in bulk from JSON, and full collection management. Works with both a locally running Zotero instance and the Zotero Web API.

Gives command-line and script access to Zotero without opening the desktop app, making library management automatable and composable with other tools.

When to use it

  • Search a research library by keyword or phrase
  • Find papers containing specific terms inside PDFs
  • Add journal articles with metadata from the command line
  • Organize references into collections and subcollections
  • Export search results as JSON for scripting pipelines

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: find all papers about 'attention mechanisms' including PDF content, then add results to a collection

AGENT
  1. 1Run full-text search: python3 scripts/zotero_tool.py search -q "attention mechanisms" --fulltext --json
  2. 2Parse returned item keys from JSON output
  3. 3List existing collections to find the target collection key: python3 scripts/zotero_tool.py listcollections
  4. 4Add each matching item to the collection: python3 scripts/zotero_tool.py collection-add-item ITEM_KEY -c COLLECTION_KEY
OUTPUT

All matching papers are added to the specified Zotero collection
