What This Skill Does

Controls and monitors AllStar Link amateur radio nodes through a REST API client that talks to an asl-agent backend running on a Raspberry Pi. Supports connecting/disconnecting nodes, managing favorites, running timed net sessions, and streaming live node events.

Lets you manage your AllStar node from anywhere on a Tailscale mesh without needing SSH or direct console access.

When to use it

  • Connect to a repeater node before a weekly net
  • Check which nodes are currently linked to your station
  • Set up a timed ARES net session that auto-disconnects
  • Save frequently used node numbers as named favorites
  • Watch live node connection events from a remote location

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: Start the ARES net and tell me when it ends

AGENT
  1. 1Run `asl-tool.py net status` to check if a session is already active
  2. 2Run `asl-tool.py net start ares --out text` to connect the configured node
  3. 3Confirm the net profile duration and auto-disconnect setting from the output
  4. 4Advise user that `net tick` must run via cron to enforce auto-disconnect
OUTPUT

ARES net started on node 55553, 90-minute session active, auto-disconnect will fire on next cron tick after expiry
