What This Skill Does
Fetches current weather conditions and forecasts for any location worldwide using the free Open-Meteo API. Supports city names, coordinates, and country disambiguation. Returns temperature, precipitation, wind, UV, humidity, and more.
No API key or account is needed, unlike most weather services that require registration or have rate-limited free tiers.
When to use it
- Checking if rain is expected before leaving the house
- Getting a weekend forecast for a travel destination
- Finding out current temperature and feels-like in a specific city
- Asking whether to bring an umbrella today
- Checking sunrise and sunset times for planning outdoor activities
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Do I need an umbrella in Paris tomorrow?
- 1Look up user location or use specified city (Paris)
- 2Run weather.sh with --forecast-days=1 --city=Paris --hourly-params=precipitation,precipitation_probability,weather_code
- 3Parse hourly precipitation and probability values for tomorrow
- 4Identify any hours with meaningful precipitation probability
- 5Summarize findings in plain language
Yes — 60% chance of rain between 13:00 and 17:00, up to 3mm expected. Bring an umbrella for the afternoon.
