What This Skill Does
Generates a daily news briefing as a conversational radio-host-style MP3 audio file and DOCX document. Covers weather, X/Twitter trends, Google Trends, world news, politics, tech, local news, sports, markets, and crypto. Runs on macOS only, using Apple TTS or MLX-Audio Kokoro, with no API keys or paid services required.
Combines weather, social trends, news, markets, and crypto into a single spoken and documented briefing without requiring API keys, subscriptions, or paid services.
When to use it
- Getting a spoken morning news briefing before leaving for work
- Catching up on local city news and weather in your native language
- Listening to a market and crypto summary as an audio file
- Generating a multilingual briefing in German, Slovak, French, or other languages
- Reviewing trending X/Twitter and Google search topics for the day
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Give me my morning briefing
- 1Check for config at ~/.briefing-room/config.json and run setup if missing
- 2Play notification sound and spawn a sub-agent with the full pipeline
- 3Sub-agent fetches weather from Open-Meteo, crypto prices from Coinbase, and X/Twitter and Google Trends data
- 4Research each news section via web search and compose a radio-host-style script of 2,500-3,500 words
- 5Generate DOCX via pandoc and MP3 via MLX-Audio or Apple TTS, then open the output folder
