Setup & Installation
Or with the ClawHub CLI, for registry-managed skill folders outside a full OpenClaw workspace:
What This Skill Does
Sets up encrypted, versioned restic backups of a Linux home directory with systemd scheduling, retention policies, and restore validation. Covers the full lifecycle: repository initialization, automated backup/prune/check jobs, credential hardening, and recovery testing. Targets local disk, SFTP, S3, and Backblaze B2 destinations.
Combines repository initialization, script generation, systemd unit deployment, and restore validation in one workflow rather than requiring the user to wire these together manually.
When to use it
- Schedule daily encrypted backups of ~/Documents and ~/Projects
- Migrate home directory backup from rsync to restic with deduplication
- Set up weekly prune and monthly integrity checks via systemd timers
- Test and verify restore from a specific restic snapshot to a temp directory
- Harden an existing restic setup with proper credential file permissions
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: set up daily encrypted backups of my home directory to an SFTP server with a 7-day/4-week/12-month retention policy
- 1Collects repo endpoint, transport type (sftp), retention policy, and schedule preferences
- 2Generates /etc/restic-home.env with credentials (chmod 600), backup/prune/check scripts, and systemd service/timer units in plan-only mode
- 3Runs restic init and an immediate backup after user confirms --apply
- 4Lists snapshots with restic snapshots and performs a restore smoke test to a temporary directory
- 5Reports exit status, snapshot ID, and restored file count as completion evidence
Systemd timers active for daily backup, weekly prune, and monthly check; restore smoke test passed; operator runbook delivered
