What This Skill Does
Sends and receives SMS messages through an Android phone running a local HTTP API gateway app. The phone acts as the SMS modem, eliminating reliance on third-party SMS providers. Supports multiple gateway apps including SMS Gateway API, SMSGate, and capcom6/android-sms-gateway.
Keeps SMS traffic entirely on your own hardware and network, avoiding per-message fees and data sharing with commercial SMS API providers.
When to use it
- Send security alerts when a vulnerability scan finds issues
- Deliver 2FA verification codes from a self-hosted auth system
- Trigger SMS notifications from Nagios or Zabbix monitoring
- Schedule daily reminders via cron without a cloud SMS service
- Broadcast bulk alerts to a list of contacts during an incident
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: send an SMS alert to +1234567890 saying the security scan is complete
- 1Reads SMS_GATEWAY_URL and SMS_GATEWAY_TOKEN from environment or config file
- 2Calls send_sms.sh with --to and --message flags
- 3Script POSTs to the Android gateway HTTP API with Bearer token auth
- 4Gateway app on the phone transmits the SMS over the carrier network
- 5Script returns delivery confirmation or error from the API response
SMS delivered to +1234567890: "Alert: Security scan complete"
