What This Skill Does
Sends Wake-on-LAN and Sleep-on-LAN magic packets to a target machine on the local network. Two Python scripts handle WOL and SOL (inverted-MAC) packets separately. MAC address, broadcast IP, and port are set via CLI flags or a local JSON config file.
Packages WOL and SOL into agent-triggerable scripts so waking or sleeping a machine becomes a single command instead of a manual packet-crafting step.
When to use it
- Waking a desktop PC before starting work in the morning
- Putting a home server to sleep after a scheduled backup finishes
- Powering on a gaming rig from another room without walking over
- Automating wake and sleep cycles from a cron job or agent trigger
- Sending a one-off WOL packet without manually crafting a magic packet
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: wake my PC
- 1Load MAC address and broadcast IP from ~/.config/wol-sleep-pc/config.json
- 2Run send_wol.py with the configured values
- 3Send a UDP broadcast magic packet to the target MAC address
- 4Confirm the packet was sent without error
Magic packet sent to the target machine; the PC receives it and powers on
