What This Skill Does
Provides a repeatable workflow for interacting with Claude Code instances running inside tmux sessions. Covers reading the latest response, sending new prompts, and running commands like /compact using only standard tmux commands.
Uses only built-in tmux commands with no helper scripts or external dependencies, making it portable across any environment where tmux is available.
When to use it
- Check Claude's latest reply in a background project session
- Send a follow-up prompt to Claude without switching terminal focus
- Run /compact on a Claude session to reduce context size
- Debug a Claude session by dumping its full scrollback buffer
- Manage Claude across multiple simultaneous project sessions
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: send the prompt 'summarize the changes so far' to the Claude instance in tmux session foobar
- 1List all panes in the foobar session to locate the one titled 'claude'
- 2Record the target pane reference as foobar:<window>.<pane>
- 3Capture the pane output to confirm Claude is ready and note the last exchange
- 4Send the prompt text followed by Enter to the target pane
- 5Poll the pane with capture-pane until a new ⏺ reply block appears, then report it
Claude's in-pane reply is quoted back, with the session and pane reference noted for traceability
