What This Skill Does

Encodes and decodes Cashu tokens hidden inside emojis using Unicode variation selectors. Chat apps display only the emoji but preserve the invisible selector characters, enabling covert token transfer. Decoded text starting with 'cashu' is a bearer token; anything else is a plain hidden message.

Decoding the full message text rather than isolating the emoji first handles mixed messages correctly and avoids missing the variation-selector payload.

When to use it

  • Decode a Cashu token received as an emoji in a chat message
  • Encode a Cashu token into an emoji before sending via messenger
  • Hide a plain text note inside an emoji for covert delivery
  • Verify token mint, unit, and amount before redeeming
  • Extract hidden payloads from emoji in an automated agent pipeline

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: decode this chat message and tell me how many sats it contains: '🥜 hey check this out'

AGENT
  1. 1Run: node ./bin/cashu-emoji.js decode "<message>" --metadata --json
  2. 2Parse the JSON response and check the isCashu field
  3. 3Read metadata.mint, metadata.unit, and metadata.amount from the response
  4. 4Report the token value and mint URL to the user
OUTPUT

Token is 21 sats on mint https://mint.example (unspent status unverified)
