Version History
Version 1.1.0 - Added _meta.json file for enhanced metadata support. - No changes to core functionality or user-facing behavior.
What This Skill Does
Fetches live prices for cryptocurrencies and commodities using a local Python module with a multi-provider fallback chain. Supports assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, gold, and silver with 60-second caching. Returns price, 24h/7d/30d change, market cap, volume, and ATH data.
Using a cached provider chain instead of web search avoids stale article snippets and eliminates the risk of hallucinated prices.
When to use it
- Checking BTC price before placing a trade
- Pulling gold and silver spot prices for a morning report
- Batch fetching multiple crypto prices for a portfolio summary
- Getting 24h and 7d change data for market analysis
- Querying ETH price with automatic DEX failover when CoinGecko is rate-limited
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: What are the current prices for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and gold?
- 1Calls fetch_multiple_prices(['bitcoin', 'ethereum', 'gold']) from the crypto_prices module
- 2Checks the 60-second cache for each asset before making network requests
- 3Queries Yahoo Finance for gold and CoinGecko for BTC and ETH
- 4Falls back to DexScreener or CoinGecko simple endpoint if the primary source fails
- 5Formats results using format_prices_block() and returns the output
BTC: $97,450.00 (+2.34% 24h) | ETH: $3,210.00 (-0.87% 24h) | GOLD: $2,345.60 (+0.12% 24h)
