What This Skill Does

ddgr is a command-line tool that runs DuckDuckGo searches directly from the terminal without opening a browser. It supports non-interactive and interactive modes, JSON output, site-specific searches, time filtering, and DuckDuckGo bangs.

ddgr keeps you in the terminal and avoids browser tracking, making it faster than opening a browser for quick lookups and usable in shell scripts.

When to use it

  • Searching the web from a terminal session without switching to a browser
  • Running privacy-focused searches in scripts or automation pipelines
  • Using DuckDuckGo bangs to jump directly to Wikipedia, YouTube, or GitHub results
  • Filtering search results by time range to find recent documentation or news
  • Extracting search results as JSON for further processing

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: find recent Python 3.12 documentation from the past month

AGENT
  1. 1Runs ddgr with the query and time filter: snap run ddgr "Python 3.12 features" --time m --np
  2. 2Receives a list of results with titles, URLs, and snippets in the terminal
  3. 3Optionally re-runs with --json to get structured output
  4. 4Parses or displays the top results to the user
OUTPUT

A list of recent Python 3.12 documentation pages and articles published within the past month
