What This Skill Does
Generates Excalidraw flowchart files from text descriptions using a custom DSL, DOT/Graphviz format, or JSON. Supports rectangles, diamonds, ellipses, database nodes, labeled arrows, and directional layouts. Output files open directly in Excalidraw.
It generates a ready-to-open .excalidraw file from plain text, skipping the manual drag-and-drop work in the visual editor.
When to use it
- Mapping out a software authentication flow
- Documenting a CI/CD pipeline with approval gates
- Visualizing a user registration process
- Diagramming API request routing and cache logic
- Drawing decision trees for business rule documentation
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Create a flowchart for a CI/CD pipeline that builds, tests, and deploys with a manual approval step
- 1Identifies the main stages: push, build, test, deploy staging, manual approval, deploy production
- 2Writes DSL with decision nodes for test pass/fail and manual approval
- 3Runs npx @swiftlysingh/excalidraw-cli create with the inline DSL and -o pipeline.excalidraw
- 4Tells the user the file is saved and can be opened at excalidraw.com via File > Open
pipeline.excalidraw file saved locally, ready to open and edit in Excalidraw
