What This Skill Does

pmctl wraps the Postman API to let you browse collections, inspect requests, and resolve environment variables from the terminal. It shows request details including method, URL, headers, body, and query params, and resolves {{variable}} placeholders to real values. No Postman GUI needed.

Instead of launching the Postman GUI to look up a request's headers or body, pmctl returns the same data instantly from the terminal with pipeable JSON output.

When to use it

  • Looking up an endpoint's method and URL without opening Postman
  • Resolving environment variables to get a real base URL
  • Building a curl command from a saved Postman request
  • Fuzzy-searching for requests across a large collection
  • Switching between personal and work Postman accounts

Example Workflow

Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.

INPUT

User asks: What headers and body does the 'create User' request use in the QA environment?

AGENT
  1. 1Runs `pmctl requests show 'create User' -c 'My API' --json` to fetch request details
  2. 2Extracts method, URL, headers, and body from JSON output using jq
  3. 3Runs `pmctl environments show 'QA' --json` to list environment variables
  4. 4Resolves the {{base-url}} placeholder by matching the key in environment values
  5. 5Returns the full request with real URL, headers, and body
OUTPUT

Full request details with resolved URL (e.g., https://api.example.com/v1/users), headers, and JSON body ready for use in a curl command
