What This Skill Does
Converts CSV files to formatted Excel workbooks using a Python script. Handles Chinese character encoding automatically and supports combining multiple CSVs into a single workbook with separate sheets.
Automatically detects encoding (UTF-8, GBK, GB2312) and applies professional formatting in one step, avoiding the manual encoding and styling work required when opening CSVs directly in Excel.
When to use it
- Converting a data export CSV into a shareable Excel report
- Merging quarterly sales CSVs into one workbook with named sheets
- Fixing garbled Chinese text when opening CSVs in Excel
- Creating formatted spreadsheets with styled headers and auto-sized columns
- Generating multi-sheet Excel files from separate department data files
Example Workflow
Here's how your AI assistant might use this skill in practice.
User asks: Combine sales_q1.csv, sales_q2.csv, and inventory.csv into one Excel file with Chinese sheet names
- 1Receives the three CSV files
- 2Runs csv_to_excel.py with all three inputs and --output flag
- 3Passes --sheet-names with Chinese labels for each sheet
- 4Script detects encoding of each file and writes formatted sheets
- 5Outputs combined .xlsx with frozen headers, borders, and auto-adjusted columns
A single Excel workbook with three named sheets, each containing formatted data from the corresponding CSV
